Getting the best result when using spray paint isn’t complicated, but requires a certain technique, so we thought we’d write a post to give you a few tips on how to get the best results.
Why use spray paint?
First of all a little about why you might choose spray paint. Spray paint has many advantages:
- Ease of application.
- No brushes or rollers to clean afterwards
- Uniform finish to the surface with no brush marks
Spray painting is really popular in the United States and much of Europe, but has been a little slower to catch on in the UK.
How to apply spray paint
(1) Shake the can:
Before painting, shake the paint can well, from top to bottom for about a minute. You should be able to hear the sound of the mixing balls inside. The balls are made of steel, small in size and used to mix the pigment that settles down over time.
(2) Application distance:
Keep the can between 25-30cm from the surface as you spray. Spray from left to right and top to bottom to get even coverage
(3) Cleaning:
After you’ve finished painting you need to purge the nozzle. Do this by inverting the can and pressing the nozzle while the can is upside down, wait until all that comes out is gas.
